Cervical Cancer Awareness Week - SOGC Reminds Women About The Importance Of Cervical Cancer Screening And Prevention
To recognize Cervical Cancer Awareness Week (Oct. 27-31), the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada (SOGC) is reminding all Canadian women of the importance of taking proactive steps to prevent cervical cancer, such as receiving regular Pap test screening or HPV vaccination. Since their inception, Pap test screening programs have dramatically reduced the number of Canadian women who are diagnosed with cervical cancer, or who die of the disease.

A doctor expressed his opinions regarding the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination chosen by the United Kingdom for its immunization program, according to an opinion piece released on October 24, 2008 in BMJ. A general practitioner and and broadcaster, Phil Hammond claims that even doctors will choose Gardasil for their own children over the government’s choice, Cervarix.

Panel calls for vaccine for adult smokers (AP)
AP - For the first time, an influential government panel is recommending a vaccination specifically for smokers. The panel decided Wednesday that adult smokers under 65 should get pneumococcal vaccine. The shot — already recommended for anyone 65 or older — protects against bacteria that cause pneumonia, meningitis and other illnesses.
